RWHB’s new biking group
May 19, 2022RUN WALK HAWKE’S BAY UPDATE
At the AGM held on 10 March a number of things occurred.
First, we welcomed 4 new life members to the club. They are Mike Sheely, Stu Gourdie, Julie Gourdie and Bernie Bowden. Congratulations to the 4 of them for their outstanding efforts over many years.
Secondly, the Don Edmundson Cup for service over the past year was awarded to John Keenan. John has been Napier Branch Treasurer for many years and has now “retired” from that role. John had been a member of the Executive for many years too and was heavily involved in the preparation of the new constitution. Congratulations to John.
Thirdly, our subscriptions were set at $50 for an individual, $80 for a couple and $20 for under 15 year olds. These subs are now due and can be paid on line.
Fourthly, following a resolution to re-register the club under the new Incorporated Societies Act our new Constitution was passed. We have now “re-registered” and our new constitution has been registered too. What this means for us all will be discussed below.
Fifthly, a new club committee was appointed. We have Joff Hulbert as President, Nicole Speakman as Treasurer, Sue Sheely as Secretary, Stu Gourdie and Eugene O’Sullivan as Napier representatives and Roger Hooker and Bernie Bowden as Hastings representatives. This committee held its first meeting after the AGM.
We also farewelled Robyn Wolfsbasuer who has decided to stand down from administrative roles. RW has been club President for many years and before that was Napier Branch club captain. She had also been race director for the Napier Half marathon and actively involved in the club Marathon. Thank you for your sterling service, RW.
Another farewell was to Robyn Galloway who is to shortly move to Australia. RG has been treasurer for many years too and actively involved in the half marathon and marathon organization. All the best for the move across the ditch RG, we’ll miss you.
With the new constitution we have a new structure. Rather than 3 formal committees 3 bank accounts we now have one committee and are working on closing bank accounts so that we end up with one account.
To ensure the “day to day” activities e.g. our social events, be they pizza nights, BBQs, our social welfare commitments continue as is we have a subcommittee looking after Napier and one for Hastings.
The Napier subcommittee consists of Stu Gourdie, John Rhodes, Sue Sheely, Eugene O’Sullivan, Boof Madden, Robbie McNaught and Joff Hulbert. Our first event, the St Paddys day dress up was held on 13 March and we have 3 more coming up shortly, the Hash House Hunt, our estimated time plus BBQ as we farewell Rovers and move to the Squash club and Hot Cross buns for Easter Sujnday.
The Hastings subcommittee consists of Roger Hooker, Bernie Bowden and Jack Peterson. The next event there is the Mothers’ Day Mile.
Hopefully we don’t have too many teething problems with the new structure. Please let either the subcommittee members or the committee members know of any issues or improvements you think we can make.
Enjoy your upcoming year with RWHB.
