From your Editor (by Gerard van de Ven)
Mid winter … This issue will probably reach you just after our club’s Mid Winter dinner and I am sure it will have been fantastic for all those that had the opportunity to come. And mid winter it has been these last few days although more with the rain over the weekend out in the country than with the cold here in Hawke’s Bay.
I am writing this on the day that we had 3 tornados on a single day in the country: in New Plymouth, Auckland and Tauranga.
It is also the day that we lost the America’s Cup. As we discussed tonight at the club: two cups gone, two left to go: we still have a chance at the rugby and the netball. Those may be a bit easier with fewer countries playing these sports at a high level.
We have of course had a major event in our club since the previous news letter. We are now Run Walk Hawke’s Bay, thanks to all that were present at the SGM and voted. We also have a new logo as you no doubt noticed on the front page. The executive is currently working on our new club uniform. That should not take too long anymore. The transformation is almost complete.
In the mean time, while you are waiting for another nerve wrecking sports event on TV, you can slough on the couch with this newsletter. Hopefully I have been able to get something interesting together for you.
We have:
- Reports from our club president and club captains
- A short look back on the very successful Hastings Half Marathon
- A report from the winning race at the Race Walk Road Relay Champs
- An invitation to come along to Sydney
- An adventure in Kawerau
- An interview with one of our members
Enjoy and remember: you can contribute to this newsletter any time. Do not think you have nothing to tell. We want to here from you!
Also remember to support our sponsors. The Shoe Clinic in Emerson Street, Napier recently joined to support the Hawke’s Bay Marathon, which was a fantastic result. You can thank them by walking into their store when you need new shoes, socks or other walking or running gear. Just go and have a look. As well as our other sponsors: Eye Deal opticians, Tumu Building centre, Napier City Pak’n Save and the Napier Professionals.
