June 2007: Committee news
Chair’s report from Wendy Foulds
A lot has happened in the club since our last newsletter. Most notably the changing of the clubs name to Run Walk Hawke’s Bay. This change should assist our promotional subcommittee in the branding of the club and encouraging new members. The Executive Committee has also decided on a logo to match, which is being used for the first time on the entry form for the Hawke’s Bay Marathon. We are also in the processes of sourcing new uniforms. Those that were fully financial members before the 20th May should have ordered their free jacket and cap. These will be distributed as soon as we receive them from our supplier and I think everyone will agree that this is really a fantastic bonus.
The Hastings Half Marathon was resounding success congratulations to those that helped John and Andrew put it together and all those that took part on the day. The conditions really couldn’t have been better. The Hawke’s Bay Marathon entry forms are now available. We have been able to secure Shoe Clinic, Napier as the major sponsor, which is fantastic. Please support them by purchasing your running or walking shoes from them and let Matt and his team know what club you are from. This year will be slightly different in as much as there will not be a half marathon relay but a half marathon to be held over the second half of the marathon course. If you are not taking part in either the marathon, half or 10km and can assist in some way please let your club captains know.
Don’t forget our website, www.runwalkhb.org.nz. It is currently under reconstruction if you have any idea on what can be used in its content. Please let your club captains know.
Our membership is growing and some credit for this can go towards the social events that allow both branches to come together and to get to know one another. The Down and Out midyear Christmas dinner is looming so to all of you that are going have a great time.
Look after yourself and your training buddies while you are out there on the roads wear reflective gear and be seen by all road users. This time of year can be fraught with colds and injuries so make sure you dress for the weather and don’t forget to hydrate during those longer training walks or runs. Keep injury free and good luck in the next challenge you take on.
Napier Branch Committee (By Robyn Wolfsbauer)
I am now well into my 2nd term as Club Captain and it has proved to be quite an eventful time.
As you are all aware we’ve gone through our name change and our club is now Run Walk Hawke’s Bay. I have been involved with sourcing and ordering the fluro jackets and peak caps which will be distributed to those members who were financial as at May 26th in the coming weeks. As a result of the name and logo change, I have also been investigating the purchase of new T-shirts and singlets that will also be required for eventual sale to members.
Whilst on the clothing trail, time has also been spent assisting Wendy with the artwork for the Shoe Clinic Hawke’s Bay Marathon event T-shirt and the Napier City Pak’nSave event T-shirt and am relieved to say all these projects are almost completed!!!
Thanks to members who have supported the events on our Social Activities Calendar – we have quite a busy schedule over the coming months and look forward to your participation. Social committee is organising our mid-year dinner on Saturday, 7 July at the River Bar Restaurant, Clive Hotel and have had a good response from members. Cost per person is $35.00 - includes a 3-course dinner plus of course whatever drinks you wish to consume.
The estimated 5k, & 10k event held recently was effected by cold temperatures however those who fronted on the day enjoyed the new course around the walkway – thanks to Dave Hills for measuring this for us.
Congratulations to those members who competed in the Wellington Half Marathon event recently – especially to Joff who finished the full marathon in 4hrs 40 which was great effort considering the strong head winds. Wendy walked well finishing 4th female overall and 2nd in her age group (won’t disclose it) with yours truly 3rd female and 1st in age group (yep, mines older!). Gordon O’Neale achieved a PB cracking 2hr 30 for the first time – well done.
Shoe Clinic Hawke’s Bay Marathon, half marathon and 10k event is looming up end August so hope to see many of you supporting it. If you don’t wish to compete in any of the distances, please put your hand up to assist on the day.
Enjoy your running/ walking – keep safe and wear your reflector gear at this time of year!!!
