Nov 2006: A perspective from an old time member
By Alan Mumford
I have been running and walking with the Hawke’s Bay Marathon Clinic for nearly a quarter of a century. In that time I have participated in more marathons and half marathons than I care to remember.
We have been burnt, drenched and sometimes blown away, as the seasons rattle on.
Perhaps my most pleasing sensation has been witnessing the enjoyment and exhilaration members have gleaned from the many hundreds of runs and walks we have made around our beautiful countryside.
I have seen people come and go and alas, some have died. However, the one common objective seems to be the desire to keep our minds and bodies well oiled and functional.
A summer suggestion:
What do we think about running or walking all day?
Coach ride 7am to 9am to say Ruahines or Kawekas. Walk / run 9am to noon. Picnic lunch at pre-arranged venue. Walk / run 1pm – 4pm. 6pm arrive home: exhausted and delighted.
